This program will explore the geography of one of the most ancient and modern civilizations in the Middle East, Egypt. A visit to this region will showcase an extraordinary diversity in Egypt’s physical, cultural, and social landscapes. you will have the chance to see
the main geographic features in the Middle east: The Mediterranean Sea , Suez Canal, The Red Sea , The Nile and the High Dam, Sinai Peninsula , the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Akkaba
The regularity and richness of the annual Nile River flood, coupled with semi-isolation provided by deserts to the east and west, allowed for the development of one of the world's great civilizations. Students will tour the historic capital city of Egypt, visit Alexandria to see the continuity of ancient and modern on the Mediterranean Sea and take a cruise on the Nile to see the Pharonic temples and the Modern High Dam. Students will also have a chance to explore the Sinai Peninsula, the only land bridge between Africa and the Eastern Hemisphere, as well as visit Sharma El-shaikh which gave the Red Sea an international reputation as one of the world's most extraordinary diving destinations.

Housing
Students housed in double or triple occupancy accommodations in Egypt.

The program is open to George Mason University and non-GMU students, staff, faculty, and alumni, as well as to the general public. To obtain credit, you need at least a 2.25 GPA.
