UNDEGRADUATE CREDITS: 3 credits in Government, Administration of Justice, History, or New Century College 495.
GRADUATE CREDITS: 3 credits in 700-level Public Administration.
TYPE OF HOUSING:Single occupancy dorm rooms on Oxford's campus. During excursion to London, students will stay in dorm or hotel accommodations.

This popular summer program open to Mason students, non Mason-students, staff, faculty, and alumni and the general public, offers an opportunity to study American and English law at the University of Oxford, one of the most prestigious academic universities in the world!
Through a unique blend of lectures, discussions, and a field trip, this program provides a well-rounded look at the development of the structure and substance of law in the United States and in the global system. Classes consist of lectures and discussions led by Oxford faculty. Students examine the historical and philosophical development of British constitutional law and its impact on the U.S. legal system today.
Students will have an unstructured weekend to enjoy the City of Oxford and one weekend in London with a tour of the Parliament.
PROGRAM NOTES: A new syllabus to be posted shortly. The program focuses on the legal and political development of the American - English common law and constitutional systems. There is a comparative assessment of existing Roman law systems as well as regional and international legal systems. The program involves case, legislative and treaty analysis and interpretation. It also includes an examination of the critical role of customary and conventional international law in domestic legal systems.
Lecturers are from various Oxford colleges. The course director is Stuart S. Malawer, J.D., Ph.D., Distinguished Service Professor of Law and International Trade at George Mason University (School of Public Policy). Among other positions Dr. Malawer has served as the Director of Legal Research and Writing at American law schools and is a former Chairman of the International Practice Section of the Virginia State Bar.
