DATES: Spring Semesters 2013
COST: A study grant will provide an $800 weekly stipend for the duration of the semester and cover the cost of roundtrip international airfare for eight George Mason students.
Financial aid may apply. If a student applies and is accepted into the direct exchange program and then drops out of the program, they are still responsible for paying the $300 administrative fee to CGE.
CREDITS: Students may enroll in a variety of courses and may transfer up to 12 credits per semester back to Mason, provided the letter grade is a "C" or above. The courses are transfer credit, and therefore will not factor into the GPA of the participant. Up to 9 graduate credits are available as well.

“Born digital,” today’s students live simultaneously in a physical world and a computer-mediated virtual space. As a result, students in different countries often listen to the same music, watch the same videos, share the same online social networks, and read the same media commentary providing them with the powerful illusion that they understand each other. This exciting new FUNDED semester program will explore that illusion...

For a full spring semester in Moscow and/or St. Petersburg, George Mason undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Humanities and Social Science will have opportunity to study alongside Russian students in the social sciences at the Higher School of Economics (HSE).
Undergraduate students may choose 4-5 classes taught in English, including two courses in a specific program of study. Graduate students should plan to enroll in 3. During their semester at HSE, Mason students will take a course in intermediate Russian to facilitate their Russian language acquisition. Internship opportunities in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia and in state bodies, such as the State Duma are also available.

FUNDING
A FIPSE fund from U.S. Department of Education will cover the cost of international travel and subsistence per diem for traveling students. Not included: Tuition, passport and visa fees, evacuation/repatriation insurance, International Student ID and mandatory Health Coverage (OSHC)
ELIGIBILITY
Students must be a George Mason Student, have a 3.3 cumulative GPA and at least 45 credit hours by the time they submit an online application. Prior to the program students must complete the 6 credit language course RUSS: 110 Elementary Russian.
In addition to the online application interested students need to submit the following:
1) Letter of interest (500 words)
2) Official transcripts
3) (2) Letters of recommendation.
NOTE: Students should not study abroad the last semester of senior year if they plan to graduate on time.
